So this book actually came out last year and I received it as a birthday present. I don’t read a lot of gothic YA but I ended up reading this within one day - it was THAT good. My favorite thing was the sheer originality of the plot. There are a few stereotypical tropes common in all YA fantasy, but the fantasy world the story enters into was not something I see often. The two protagonists were incredibly strong and the antagonist was super freaking otherworldly creepy. The hardest thing about reading this book so quickly after it’s release was realizing I had to wait (and am still waiting) a full year + for the sequel. Also, can we TALK about that gorgeous cover please !?! It has got to be one of my favorite gothic or Young Adult covers ever. Period. Clipstone’s writing is atmospheric, lush, and incredibly addictive as well. For any YA fantasy, gothic, or horror lover, seriously add this one.
