The storyline seems dark but the book IS labeled gothic fantasy. I found the abuse of the main characters disturbing but the introduction of the “monster” makes the story more intriguing. The brief excerpt definitely made me curious about the backgrounds of the characters and where the story will go. Not sure if I will like it or not.
