While the first few pages grabbed me (maybe because I wasn't expecting much), it quickly fell into a typical YA area for me. There's very little that sets Violeta apart from a hundred other protagonists. The beginning descriptions of the shadows and Arien had me interested, but slowly the originality of the writing fell away and I was left with a story that I felt had been done before.
