I had high hopes for this book. The cover is cute, the blurb was interesting, it had great reviews. The best I can say for the book was it was quick to read. It felt like it was a book about a gay character written by a straight man, so it was very confusing to find out the author himself is gay. It would like to even believe that it is because of where the author grew up, however we grew up in the same area according to the author's bio at the end of the book. Maybe it was just a different time back then, but it hardly represents how things are today. It felt forced and jumbled. It felt forced to try to cover so many political topics all at once, and didn't really answer any of the political questions. My friends and I all agreed it read like fanfiction, which is fine except for when you're expecting a novel. It had a lot of potential, I'm sad to see it didn't turn out to be great.
