I am excited to read the rest of The Kiss Quotient. The female lead character, Stella, isn't your typical romance novel heroine. Yes, she's smart and pretty, but she also has Asperger's, which is revealed to readers a few pages into the first chapter. I appreciate how Hoang writes in the nuance's of Stella's life with Asperger's, including sensitivity to smells and touch as well as a personality others might call "blunt". I didn't necessarily appreciate Stella's mom -- she's written as a character who doesn't really try to understand her daughter's life and struggles, instead making it seem as though Stella's difficulties are aspects of life Stella can just get more "practice" with in order to overcome. Thankfully her father seems a bit more sensitive to and perceptive of Stella's needs. I also really liked the male lead character, Michael. He seems kind, caring, and clearly has a complicated history that is teased throughout the "first impression" chapters. He and Stella seem to have an interesting chemistry and I would love to see where their relationship goes.
