This novel holds onto that classic trope of Fake dating. Which is my absolute favorite trope of any YA novel, but it wasn’t any run of the mill fake dating. This novel added a unique twist of proving a curse wrong and someone already in love with the one they’re fake dating.
Arjun was interesting because he didn’t play into the stereotypical jock role. He had more substance to him and we actually got to learn more about him. He wanted to be seen as more than a trend that was popular and be his true authentic self.
While for Madhuri was strong willed and wanted to overcome families expectations. It allowed for us as a reader throughout the story to see her become vulnerable. She lets down her shield and becomes one with herself and changing expectations for herself. Which we get to see her happy.
