A great start to summer reading! This book is about a family ‘curse’ and girl determined to break it. Madhuri’s family curse says that the first boyfriend you have is the man you will marry. Madhuri thinks she finds a loophole by fake dating her best friend Arjun knowing they don’t have those kinds of feelings and won’t get married. Little does Madhuri know that Arjun has secretly been in love with her and she seems to be the only one who doesn’t see it. Needless to say, the plan takes quite a turn! I loved this friends to lovers story line filled with lots of culture with some astrology mixed in. It was nice to see some diversity and culture not often seen in this genre. We see a lot of this with things like the pressures of family, needing to succeed or it’s a failure. Very realistic representation. The plot moves very quickly from the fake dating into the relationship almost like a switch flipped. Almost like instalove after so long of one sided feelings by one character was a jump for me. Was the quickness part of fate or is it real? That being said there was good chemistry between the characters with very modern dialogue that works for YA. ALSO let’s not forget to mention the beautiful and absolutely stunning cover. Amazing artwork! Overall a great ending with lots of acceptance in many different forms (especially personal acceptance). Definitely recommend. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
