Sometimes you have to tempt fate to truly believe in it. A beautiful, romantic debut young adult novel by Ananya Devarajan.

Madhuri and Arjun have been best friends since childhood. They are neighbors who became more like family when Arjun's mother left for work, only seeing him a handful of times every year. When the new school year starts for their senior year, Madhuri's mom does their annual astrology readings. It turns out that Madhuri is destined to fail and Arjun is going to find a romance that has the potential to last but also the potential to break his heart.

While their culture is very important to both of them, Madhuri doesn't want to believe in this and her family's curse; finding a happily ever after with her first boyfriend. So, she decides to have a fake relationship with an expiration date to prove to her family that this isn't in the stars for her.

The entire book is just so cute and romantic. I swooned at Arjun's sweet personality, wanted to nudge Madhuri to see him as more than a friend, and just rooted for their happiness until the very end. I was so happy to see Indian culture represented in such a beautiful and honest way. I am shocked in the best way possible that this is the author's debut. Her writing is engaging and captivating!
