This is a straightforward, cute little friends to lovers story. Arjun and Madhuri have been best friends since childhood. Every year they do an astrological reading. When Madhuri's prophecy shows her first boyfriend will be her forever love, she decides to prove her fate is hers to write. So, she does what she knows best, an experiment (with Arjun's help). The two beat friends will date for a set period of time and then break up. No feelings involved.
The story progresses as well as you would expect. There aren't any surprises. Honestly, the whole plot is predictable. One of the things this book has going for it though, is the other relationships in the book. Specifically, the parent-child relationship. It is interesting to see how each teen is shaped by their family. The fact that Madhuri's family basically takes Arjun in when his own mother is absent for most of his life, adds another layer to Madhuri and Arjun's own relationship. One relationship I wish would have been explained more, would be the one Madhuri has with her ex-best friends. How and when did their friendship devolve? I understand why they don't get along now, so it is difficult for me to see how they were even bffs in the first place.
