I’d give this 3.5 stars! This cute YA romance centers around Madhuri and Arjun, best friends since childhood who enter into a fake relationship at the start of their senior year of high school. Along with the fake dating trope, there’s also themes of found family and struggles with cultural identity. In case you, like me, were wondering about the title of the book, “Kismat” means destiny or fate in Tamil, the language Madhuri’s family speaks which is explained in the book.

While I really enjoyed the cultural elements and the chemistry between Madhuri and Arjun, the pacing felt off for me and elements of the plot didn’t quite feel believable, which made it difficult to really get into the story. I feel the best parts of this book are the interactions between Madhuri and Arjun and their character development.
