It is rare to find a book that speaks to queer youth in such an authentic way, but is still relatable to all teens, regardless of their sexuality. The book deals with universal themes of loss and exhilaration. The story of Linus and Harrison is just so . . .real. From the devastation of having someone special inform of his imminent plans to move out of state to the excitement of a road trip filled with overcoming fears, Kings of B'More has it all. The release of this book in May, feels like a nod to real time events that transpire at the end of a school year. Standardized testing, college, and unknowns are topics on the minds of many students, which makes the characters feel that much more relatable.

R Eric Thomas gives us a great first YA novel and is someone whose work will capture the YA audience. I look forward to seeing what comes next for this author!
