This queer positive contemporary YA was a great way to start off pride month. Kings of B’More follows black, gay best friends Harrison and Linus as they navigate the world of being a teen, being queer, having different socio-economic statuses, and maybe even being in love with your best friend…! I thought this was a cute story for teenagers coming into their own as members of the community. I liked how the book related to socio-economic issues and highlighted those wealth disparities. I also liked the love dimension as this is a major part of teenage life. As far as the actual story, I didn’t care for it too much because the pacing was too slow. I found it hard to stay invested in our main characters’ story, which likely means it wasn’t the book for me. However, for young teenagers I think this is a go-to novel and maybe even a must-read for pride month.
