The cover, synopsis, & excerpt definitely targets a demographic (young teen/tween), which isn't me. But the story seems sweet. The cover felt weirdly 1980s. I didn't not like it but it made it feel like a book aimed at someone younger than a teen - more tween. In the excerpt, the writing was solid, although the first few paragraphs felt a bit like I was dropped into the middle of a conversation. It took me a minute to get what was happening. After reading the excerpt, I felt like the cover was accurate - although these are supposed to be rising 11th graders, it felt like it was written for a younger audience. One thing that did bug me was when Harrison was naming doctors, he got the name of the main character in Rocky Horror Picture Show wrong. He said "Fran-N-Furter" but it is correctly Frank-N-Furter. A minor issue but one that should have been caught.
