I really enjoyed this book, not just the mystery aspect, but I really enjoyed the family and community dynamics portrayed in the book. While I enjoyed the dynamic between May and Gemma, and while she was an important character, I thought she would be far more involved since she was mentioned in the synopsis. However, I understand she is pretty young. I enjoyed the romantic subplot between May and Wallace and I was also intrigued by the romantic tension between Gemma and the doctor.

I enjoyed the mystery, even though I felt like this took a while to build up, however the pacing made sense considering the context of the story. I also enjoyed learning more and more about Lulu Wong as the story moved further along. I definitely didn't expect the story to end the way it did, and although I'm not usually a fan of books with historical contexts, I really enjoyed the setting of the story and I think the author did a great job of making both Gemma and May relatable.
