I loved how this book was a mystery set in a historical setting. I think that the setting sucked me in, and the mystery kept me engaged. The characters were relatable and believable, and the mystery was just elusive enough that I was hooked, but not elusive enough that I got frustrated and left the book halfway through. I think I was most impressed by the fact that I did not figure out the ending early, even though I usually do. I came away from the book feeling like I knew more about how good authors build a foundation for a solid mystery. I would be interested to read more of Stacey Lee's work because I have never read anything of hers before, and if this book is any indication I feel like I would really connect with the settings, characters, themes, and plots of her books. It was a job well done and I would highly recommend this book to anybody who enjoys historical mysteries!
