First off I love the page design - the flowers at the beginning of each chapter are such a nice touch. I also love dual narrative stories and this one is great. You get to hear Gemma’s point of view as well as her sister, May’s. They live in Chinatown in LA during the Great Depression. Racism is very prominent at the time and it’s interesting to read about what things were like for the family during that time. Even after finding a fellow Asian American’s body the main characters continue to face racism and stereotypes from the investigating police. I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here as one sister is on the brink of possibly having to marry to help support the family and the other would have to remain behind as their father is still in the sanitarium. Will the prospective husband be great or creepy? Will the girls solve their friend's murder ? I can’t wait to find out!
