Unique and so very readable
Let me start out by saying that this is not at all the kind of book I would normally pick up. Books folks describe as "funny" just aren't my thing. But then I saw an endorsement from Roxane Gay on the cover (what a smart placement!) and knew I had to check it out.
I was surprised by how much I liked this. I loved Juliet's character and her exploration of identity from the very beginning. The writing here felt current, but not in a way that won't age well or is trying too hard to connect with young folks. It felt, for lack of a better word, real.
This truly did had laugh-out-loud moments, but it also had deeply moving lines that stopped you right in your tracks. Don't sleep on picking this up.
