This was so much fun to read. I adored how the author portrayed emotion throughout their prose. I’m a sucker for queer coming of age stories, but this one deserves every bit of hype that it receives. I will definitely be exploring the graphic novel adaption as well.

The main reason I didn’t finish this sooner was because the stream of consciousness writing style was just hard for me to grasp onto. I’m very glad that I stuck with it because the conversations surrounding intersectional feminism are exceptional and so wonderful to see portrayed in fiction. However, the style took me three or four tries to get into.

This had excellent characterization. I loved Juliet and seeing her grow into her own belief system was really wonderful to see. There were moments where she was following her role model and she was just being patronized and dismissed; but it was great to see her flourish.

Really excellent read! I definitely will be buying a copy for my husband’s classroom.
