This is a story about Juliet discovering herself. She leaves her home in The Bronx after coming out to her family and to broaden her world and figure out who she is.

The book was a wonderful exploration of self, womanhood, sexuality and race. It was a challenging read at times, in good and necessary ways. Especially for white readers, so be prepared to check your white fragility at the door. The depiction of the white characters isn't always flattering, and there were times I had to grapple with feelings about that, but it's important. We mess up, a lot, even when we think we're being allies. Even when we think we're doing the right thing. And this story of self-discovery was also important. It's worth it even for readers like me who aren‘t typically that into YA as a genre.
