My favorite parts were reading about Julie and her brother Lil' Melvin because I can totally connect with that brotherly bond and how special it read to me. Being from the Bronx, I loved reading a book set in my place, you know? And reading this book when I'm at home right now was a really great thing I decided to do, even if I wasn't thinking about it when I suddenly decided to read JTAB. And don't even get me started on how much I relate to Juliet on so many things! Her nerdness and chubbyness, her anxiety. It all allowed me to sit down and listen to the narration for hours (even when the lovely narrator didn't pronounce her Spanish quite as perfectly.) I loved Ava and Juliet's comrade and familial bond.

Ava was honest and gave Juliet the tough love that she needed whenever they talked about white feminism. And I LOVED how white feminism was displayed and how intersectionalism needs to be a part of feminism, or it's not actually feminism. What really got to me was Juliet's mom giving her advice on her complicated feelings by telling her to write her own book. All in all, I found myself rooting for Juliet and the rest of the cast of Juliet Takes a Breath.
