The cover of Juliet Takes a Breath immediately drew me in and reminded me a bit of the beautiful cover of Queenie, because it has a cool hairstyle and doesn't feature a picture of a white girl like so many books. Juliet is a young Puerto Rican woman living in the Bronx who doesn't know where she fits in, especially with her own family, who she feels would disown her if they knew she was gay. To put some of these fears and anxieties into words, Juliet writes a letter to her favorite feminist author, who writes back!
I love the writing, which is infused with the sights and sounds and people of the Bronx, and took me right back to my years spent living in New York.
I can't wait to read the rest of this book.
