After a brief preview of the book, I am excited to see a Puerto Rican protagonist that was attempting to live out her dream. As an ESL teacher, having books that the students can relate to is extremely important and may very well help them along the road to learning English. As an ESL teaching NYC kids, many who are questioning and figuring out their sexual identity, this book has the potential to inspire students to accept themselves for who they really are and follow their own dreams and learn that anything is possible. I also like that this book is written within the culture as it is important that students have access to minority cultures and not just mainstream or dominant cultures. I already have a few fellow teachers in mind that may enjoy reading or sharing this book with their students. I hope it lives up to my expectations.
