I'm not going to lie, this book seems like it would feel right at home in my senior Women's and Gender Studies class. The snark and forwardness in Juliet's letter at the start of the novel are unabashedly honest without feeling forced. However, the end of the letter - and the first chapter - reveal an uncertainty in Juliet about where she thinks she fits in. The line 'Raging Flower was both book and shield" (11) lets readers know that while Juliet might come off as a strong woman, she is also unsure of herself and needs the power of other women to shield her from the things she doesn't want to face yet. It also, hopefully, sets up the rest of the book where Juliet will no longer need to hide behind the words of Raging Flower, confident in her own words, skin, and life.

No matter what, this book will make its way to my shelf by the end of the year.
