Lynda La Plante has created a believable story of multiple robberies of country homes of the wealthy. The interaction and tensions between the different branches of law enforcement feel genuine and play a strong role as the story unfolds. At first, the long running series of robberies is a complete mystery, well planned and leaving the local Cotswold detectives with virtually no clues. The wealthy victims are insured and don't show great interest or concern in helping to solve these crimes. The London detective Jack Warr is brought in to assist and takes a lead in beginning to unravel the crimes, known and unknown. The action continues to build throughout as the gang and their international connections begin to be known. The story builds to a strong and exciting finish.
