I haven't read many crime books, but the start of this reminded me of a typical episode of Law & Order: it introduced someone stumbling upon the crime scene before then going on to show the detective. While I do think that's a nice start and a way to pull readers in, I just find it isn't as easy for me to get into crime books as it is to crime shows. I did think the writing was very nice, though!
