Louisa May Alcott wrote Little Woman's Laurie to be in love with Jo. However, by the end of the book, he is married to Amy and Jo is married to the professor.
de la Cruz and Stohl rewrote the ending the story to focus of Laurie's and Jo's relationship instead. There are other changes to Alcott's original story as well, to make the story entirely that of de la Cruz's and Stohl's, namely Beth survives.
If you enjoy retellings that let you in on the way others view a story should be written, Jo and Laurie is a great start! It lets you in on the imaginations of the authors and their viewing of Alcott's world. Many things from Alcott's world may change, but the core point remains the same. The story is still about four sisters who love each other dearly and want the best the world has to offer them. It's just the offerings of the world that are a little bit different. And a change in a love story.
I found this one to be extremely enjoyable!
