Disclaimer: I have adored Little Women (and Jo March) since it got me through some rough times as a child. So I was dubious about this version, with a Jo and Laurie love affair instead of a fiery friendship. I was willing to give it a chance, however, and I think it could have worked - with different authors.

I have never liked Melissa de la Cruz's writing style, and this proved no exception. It's choppy and stilted and does the original a disservice. I'm glad I got the chance to read an excerpt though, because I was debating ordering it and now I know that I will not.
