Starts off pulling my heartstrings; then it fizzles
After reading the excerpt do Linda LeGarde Grover’s new book, In the Night of Memory, I was excited to find out I won an advanced copy of her book. I wanted to find out more about Rainfall Down and Azure Sky and why their mother, Loretta, had to turn them over to Child Services. My heart ached for Azure Sky, the younger sister, as she told the story. It was obvious that she was responsible for her older sister. I also liked the list of characters to refer to while reading the book.
Just as the reader becomes engrossed in the girls’ story wondering what homes the girls would be sent to live and if they would ever be connected with their mother, the story moves to other characters and it is almost like another story. I found it very slow going and very confusing. Thank you BookishFirst and University of Minnesota Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. 2.5 stars
