A lot of my relatives live near an Indian reservation in Northern Minnesota, but I don't know that there's a lot of mixing between people from the reservation and the various small and mid-size communities in that area. It would be interesting to know if they've heard about the issue of missing women, and to know what they would make of the sense of place and character in this novel.

From the youthful first-person voice of some of the book's narration, this has kind of a YA, irreverent tone, so I think this would strongly appeal to young readers. Nobody's really fancy in this, so I could see a realistic film or TV adaptation of this, showing real people.

You have characters in this having to keep their heads down and not buck authority, so that's a pretty big theme in this, I would say--authority figures on the one hand and on the other people who aren't allowed as much of a voice as people deserve simply for being people.
