I was really excited about this book. Being Native American myself (Inuit and Cree), I don't find too many books that give good accounts of things Native Americans have experienced through history. I had high hopes for this book. A story about two Native American girls Rainfall Dawn (Rainy) and her sister Azure Sky. Their mother Loretta hands them over to foster care at the age of 3 and 4. I needed to know their story and why Lorretta did it.

The beginning of the book seemed very poetic, memories of Loretta. However, at moments I was confused by the author. For example right at the beginning of the book, " I have forgotten our mother's voice, yet I still hear her husky whisper." Then the very next page, "I would recognize the sound of her voice today if she sat behind us on the bus." Which one is it? Have you forgotten your mothers voice or do you remember it?

As the book went on I became even more confused. I thought this was going to be a story about Rainy and Azure telling their experiences, what happened to there mother for all the years, etc.. This book has a very badly written synopsis because it is nothing like described.

Overall, I dragged through this very slow, very sad book. It's not a lift me up book. I wasn't really expecting it too be. However, I think I needed more about Loretta, I needed the book the synopsis describes, I needed to be invested in the story. I wasn't invested because of the way it was written, jumping around so much. That said, the reason for the 2 stars and not 1 star. I did enjoy the writing in some parts. Not everything was bad.
