Not willing to take a chance on this one

I'll admit I'm not really a fan of books that have family trees or cast of characters listed as it usually means that while reading the story I'm going to have to keep flipping back and forth trying to remind myself who is who. It doesn't make for a smooth reading experience. I was impressed with the writing in the excerpt, but I'm just getting a vibe that this might not be the book for me. I've found most of the time when I have a gut feeling about a book, to just trust it because I'm usually right. So I'm going to pass on this one but I hope others enjoy it!
