I wanted to love this memoir. It promised engaging stories about her father and other family. It deals with the deep grief she feels at the death of her father, something I have also experienced. It contains beautiful artwork and shares many details of Chinese culture, both interests of mine. But, I could not finish. I had difficulty holding the thread of the narrative. I found the sections on Chinese astrology incomplete for someone like me, who knows little about it, and found myself constantly searching for additional information. And while the author's meditative journeys are interesting, there were too frequent and I didn't find the details helpful in understanding her path to wholeness. Everything got tangled up in my mind. It was more than I could handle right now.
