Alexandra A. Chan did a wonderful job honoring her father and her family with In the Garden Behind the Moon: A Memoir of Loss, Myth, and Magic. The care and love she put into it is evident from page one. The pictures that were included just elevated the reading experience by assisting the reader with that visual touch. From actual family photos (and a family tree at the beginning which was really helpful) to beautiful Chinese art.

This magical and emotional journey is so engaging. Reading this family's story made me feel like I was in a history and mythological class combined - but in the best way possible! Chan did a wonderful job blending historical facts with the added stories passed down to her in a way that is easy for the reader to soak up and enjoy.

You can just tell how much her father meant to the author and it is so beautiful to be able to FEEL that in this memoir. I will definitely suggest this book to my friends and family.
