I appreciated the author's introduction regarding the format of the memoir and the inclusion of the Chan family tree. This was a very short first impression and only included the prologue, which tells of her grandfather's exit from China in 1889 at the age of 18. I thought the writing was very good and her grandfather's story was very engaging.
