Beautifully written and wholly unique
In the Garden Behind the Moon feels, as advertised, like the most unique blend of memoir and myth. You can tell there was a lot of intentionality and care behind the author's set-up to the book, not to mention the beautiful aesthetic of the first handful of pages. The author has a beautiful, almost poetic writing style that feels fitting with the information shared in the prologue--that her grandfather was a poet. I'm excited to read more and find out where Chan's family's journey takes her.
