In At The Deep End is described as a lesbian Bridget Jones, and while the similarities are there, this is a book on its own. Julia, the main character, in this book, is in a sex drought. She tries to remedy this, but is not really satisfied. She turns to women, and the world is open to her. At first, she likes the idea of being a lesbian almost as much as actually being a lesbian. She likes the community and the reaction from other people when she tells them.
However, she then finds herself beyond exploring and entering a relationship with a woman. This book has a LOT of sex (NSFW, the cover warns) and while it's not exceptionally graphic, it is mentioned in nearly every chapter. Once you get past the sex, it has a good story with good characters. Julia is a little naive, but it's an understandable naive for anyone who has been in a relationship that others don't necessarily approve of, regardless of gender.
The book gives a good insight into the LGBQT+ community in England.
