When I saw that a middle-grade book was up for grabs, I knew I had to take it! Like myself, my sister is an avid reader, though in a different age category. She loves books shrouded in fantasy and mystery, both elements this book fulfills even better than initially anticipated. While there did seem to be some cultural differences she seemed to work through them very quickly due to the writer’s fantastic writing and descriptions, but that is to be expected from any fantasy book. We had never heard of the author before but they are clearly a seasoned author who knows what they are doing, as the book is well written and the storylines are very engaging, as well as the slew of characters including our main one. The book begins at a funeral, but the story is far from dead.
