This was an engaging adventure and mystery novel. Nnamdi's character development was especially appealing. He is such a dynamic character and I think his vulnerability (and love of comics) will make him loved by middle-grade readers.
In addition to watching Nnamdi grow, the plot kept me engaged at every turn. The reader is left as confused as Nnamdi and Chioma as they try to figure out who killed Nnamdi's father. The answer in the end is satisfying, as sweet as a mango or Nnamdi watching his father's garden grow again. Overall, this book was a perfect combination of a mystery and coming-of-age story. Nnamdi grows as a person, learns about the complicated nature of the world, and solves a mystery while doing those things.
(Bonus for American and/or not Nigerian readers is learning more about life in Nigeria.)
