As a high school ELA teacher, I don't read too much middle grades fiction. I think this is something both myself and my students will enjoy though. The premise seems quirky and fun- a young boy embracing newfound powers after being gifted a mystical object, vowing to avenge his father by taking down the bad guys. I think this will appeal to readers beyond the middle grades. I haven't read anything by Nnedi Okorafor (though I feel like I've seen Akata Witch everywhere recently), but I'm definitely adding this one to my TBR.
