The eleven-year-old protagonist is sure to capture the hearts and minds of readers of all ages. Nnamdi must deal with the death of his highly respected father, a police chief who never accepted bribes. To make matters worse, the suspected murderer is a powerful man who "was so successful in his criminal activity because he was the descendant of a demon...", and this monster of a man shows up at the funeral of Nandi's father. Nandi is confused and demoralized by his relatives willingness to allow this horrible man to be there and to be willing to talk to this man. However, the furor within Nandi's heart is multiplied when he sees his father's distinct gold ring on the suspected murderer's finger. MG readers will delight in not only the adventures and Nandi's sudden super power strength a year after his father's death as well as juvenile descriptions that are sure to elicit a laugh, such as a bad character's smell that is described as "a monster farting in a nest of rotten meat." Is this book a Captain Underpants adventure meets CHILDREN OF BLOOD AND BONE? I'd love to find out and look forward to reading the rest!
