For a good chunk of this year, I have been anticipating the release of “If You Could See The Sun” by Ann Liang and IT IS AMAZING (definitely well worth the wait and most importantly, pulled me out of a brutal book slump)
The story surrounds itself around Alice, who has mysteriously obtained the supernatural ability to turn invisible. Alice uses this new profound ability to her advantage by becoming a true Gossip Girl in real life and learning the twisted truths of the students in her International Boarding School in Beijing. (While also keeping up with her rigorous school, hiding the truth about herself and, trying to not fall in love with her very handsome academic rival Henry—I applauded Alice for all of this in all honesty)
The writing was fast-paced and hooked me into Alice’s mind from chapter 1, definitely making this one of the most memorable reads of the year. Apart from the beautiful writing, the characters were fleshed out and easy to relate to (especially about the stressful aspects of being in high school)
All in all, this book was one of the best books I’ve read this year and I can’t wait to read more of her work!!
