First off, whoever the cover designer is for this book, they need to win an award. When this book arrived I was awestruck with how stunning it was.
When starting this book, I had low expectations. I had a slight feeling it would be gossip girl in a Beijing international school but with powers, and that part was correct. This book really had the potential to knock it out of the park and be a book that would be the talk of booktok.
However, I think this story falls flat with how fast paced it was. Our main character gains her power about 20 pages in. But, there really is no explanation of how the power was gained. Her aunt also knows about her power, but there is also no explanation as to why her aunt would be so understanding and not freaked out. There really just seemed to be a lot of plot holes that weren't covered because the story was flown through. I would have loved to have the chance to really understand the characters and wish more development had been put into them as well.
