This book is a quick read that kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I started and finished this book in the same day. Those who typically shy away from YA should still consider this a must-read. Liang perfectly captures the experience of being in high school - the anxiety, insecurity, desperation, the sense that everything is the most important thing to ever happen - in such a way to evoke bitter sweet nostalgia from those of us that are now beyond high school.

Many easily mishandled aspects of this novel were written with tact and care. For example, the compounding effect of disparaging socioeconomic status and the terror of being in high school.

I enjoyed the romance in this as it felt sweet and soft like first love should.

Since this novel is in first-person perspective, it’s important to choose a narrator with a voice that fits our main character, and this narrator was well-chosen.
