It's a bit hard to gauge the story based on this first impression since it really just provided background and context for Alice's current predicament (she's the top student who just learned she has to leave her high-powered private school due to cost). We get an impression of her classmates (extremely wealthy, very connected, incredibly privileged) and we leave off just as she realizes she's invisible. The book blurb has me intrigued about what will happen in the rest of the story. As an aside, the pressure cooker school environment with its focus on prestige and pedigree is awful, but is probably reflective of actual schools - still, I wish we could deemphasize that piece for the sake of teen mental health.
