From the beginning of this story, you can tell Alice is under a lot of pressure. Mostly from the drive to succeed. When her parent's tell her that she must leave her prestigious academy to due to financial issues, she doesn't argue but is vastly disappointed and worried about her future. I wish this first look was longer because we were left on such a good cliff hanger with Alice maybe turning invisible!
