Too much (and too little) going on....

I really wanted to like this book. It sounded like a great one-- family comes together, a huge secret is spilled at a funeral, and this changes the whole family's perspective of the life of the deceased...

First, there were TOO MANY CHARACTERS. It was hard to keep them all straight, let alone who belonged to what family. It was super confusing in the beginning, but did get a little bit easier as the book went on. Generally, though, it was too much to weigh through, with at least 10 "main" characters. Honestly, I needed a family tree to keep them straight.

So with all of that going on (the too much) the whole plot had very little going on. It was a lot of family talking to each other, but not really much action or big revelations. It was just, plain, boring. At many junctures, I considered not finishing, and adding it to my DNF pile. I considered that even when I was 75% done, since I really found myself not caring what happened to the characters. I made it through, but wouldn't recommend.
