This well-written book takes us through the week in the life of three generations of a couple of connected families. It is a bit like the tv sit com Modern Family but set in the South (in the modern-day US). The many varied characters are vulnerable, their relationships are messy, and their interactions with one another are emotionally charged. The book is about family and how we try to deal with major life events (or not), notably the beginning and ending of relationships. African Americans are represented favorably, and the story is LGBTQ+.

As for negatives, there are a lot of people to keep track of from the start and I confess that early on in the book I had to jump back to the first chapter a few times because I couldn't remember who was who and how they were related.

I was provided with an ARC (thanks to the author & publisher!) and I am voluntarily posting my honest review.
