The pastoral cover design of If We're Being Honest hardly seems to fit the chaos within the Williams family. In fact, the first sentence describing the grandfather's funeral seems to fit the lives of all the various generational members. Their problems and lifestyles are varied, from rejection on televised bachelorette shows to vanity over the number of Instagram followers one has, and cheating spouses. However, no one seems to know the truth about anyone else in the family tree, so a drunken admission of lust as the funeral eulogy is evidently just the tip of the iceberg. Interestingly, the book does not seem like a serious family drama but rather seems to verge on slapstick comedy at times, such as when Alice worries that she looks like she is passing gas (in the middle of the family gathering) - because she is. It is difficult to predict where the plot is headed, but the family dynamics promise a real "_____ show" (page 3).
