Years ago, in 2016, I lost my mother unexpectedly due to cancer. Reading the preview of Cat Snook's debut novel triggered my memories of the days in the aftermath of her loss. Like the family tries to make sense of what their lives mean in the aftermath of the funeral, almost seven years after, I am still trying to understand what happened in those days. Family members behaved in emotional, strange, and odd ways. One instance was when my mom's side of relatives took a happy photograph on the day that we lost her, angering my dad and us. Ironically, many wanted to celebrate her life, but many of us were still grieving in an unconventional Indian family. If anything, this book is an important one to get us to talk about difficult and uncomfortable topics that we need to have discussions on.
