Another thought provoking novel from David Arnold. Like The Electric Kingdom, I loved you in another life delves into the idea that people are fated to find each other. Evan and Shosh don't seem destined to be together, but history pulls them together and leads them to each other.

The two teens have had to contend with life's difficulties, Shosh sacrificing her dream of being on stage and Evan blatantly avoiding the deadline to apply to study in Alaska during his gap year. Rather than coming across as pity parties, these characters make you believe that they are forced into these binds. But when the two get closer together, bumping into one another serendipitously, there lives begin to slowly turn. An evolution as gradual as the earth turning. As though gravitational forces are at work, and they are meant to find love and purpose through hardship.

The historical chapters interspersed make this novel faceted and give it the shimmer it needs to keep the reader guessing.
